Upper Goulburn Region

The Upper Goulburn is a small relatively new wine region located north of the Yarra Valley stretching from Glenburn to Mansfield/Mt Buller along the Melba and Maroondah Highways and from Tallarook and Yea to Eildon along the Goulburn River.

The region is rich in natural beauty of lakes and river systems and is recognised as the major gateway to Victoria’s High Country. The climate and altitude are ideal for the production of crisp and racy aromatics white and sparkling wines and elegant textural red wines.

The cool evenings of the High Country, combined with its location on the northern side of the Great Dividing Range with significantly higher sunlight hours than the Yarra Valley and coastal wine regions, provide a climate with low disease pressure leading to less intervention with chemical additives

The boutique wineries and vineyards are mainly family-owned with some viticulturists adopting a low environmental footprint to produce their harvest.

In just an easy 90 minute drive north east from Melbourne, you can be enjoying a wonderful experience visiting the Upper Goulburn. The natural terrain and waterways of our region ensure an all year round experience. Charming country towns in our scenic wine region are linked by the new High Country Rail Trail, meandering along the heritage-classified Goulburn River.
